The 7th Circuit Court in Flint runs a veterans treatment court, one of four specialty courts reached through a single referral form. Referrals must come within 7 days of the last pre-trial hearing. The court publishes no eligibility rules beyond the State statute.
The 7th Judicial Circuit Court runs a Veterans Treatment Court in Flint under MCL 600.1200 to 600.1212 (see the Michigan entry on veterans treatment courts), for veterans facing criminal charges whose cases are linked to service-related trauma, PTSD or substance use, with treatment, mentoring and support services. It is funded by State and federal grants; the Board accepted a State Court Administrative Office grant of $19,518 for it in November 2025.
How to be referred. Defence counsel or the defendant emails the court's specialty court referral form and the police reports to [email protected], ticking the programmes of interest and noting any mental health or substance use diagnosis and whether the defendant is in jail. Referrals must be made within 7 days of the last pre-trial hearing or screening may not be finished in time. The court replies with an eligibility form; someone may qualify for more than one specialty court.
The court publishes no rules of its own on discharge or service length, so the statute's test applies: a veteran under MCL 35.61, which takes any discharge other than dishonorable, with 180 days of active duty, and no violent offense.
