Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Genesee County Department of Veterans Services, formed in 1975, is the county's department of veterans affairs (see the Michigan entry on county departments). The Board of Commissioners oversees four veteran programmes under one director, Derrick Britton: the department itself, the Soldiers Relief Commission, the county's Michigan Veterans Trust Fund committee and the Veterans Burial Fund. What it does. Its service officers, accredited through the VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the national county officers' association, file service-connected disability claims, VA pensions and survivors pensions, education claims and records requests, and help with Soldiers Relief Commission and Trust Fund applications, county and federal burial benefits and a Genesee County veterans ID card. It also runs Vets to Wellness rides through MTA Flint (their own entry) and refers veterans to the Disabled American Veterans van (810-742-9220) for VA hospital trips. Appointments are strongly recommended. The millage. Genesee County voters approved a veterans millage of 0.0984 mill at the November 8, 2022 election, authorized through December 31, 2030, according to the County's 2023 L-4029 tax rate request. After rollbacks the county levied 0.0972 mill in 2025, per its apportionment report. The Board's resolutions name a Veterans Services Millage fund as the source for the MTA rides, and the department also draws a State county veteran service fund grant ($163,665 for fiscal 2027, RES-2026-1145). Where. Genesee County Administration Building, 324 South Saginaw Street, Suite 7D, Flint, Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; phone 810-257-3068, email [email protected].
