Gadsden County Tax Collector: Free Disabled Veteran Hunting and Fishing License
The Gadsden County Tax Collector issues Florida's free disability hunting and fishing licence, but its page says the disabled person "must present an awards letter from the Social Security Administration", where section 379.353 also takes a VA total and permanent rating or a 50% service-connected rating; bring the VA letter. 16 S. Calhoun Street, Quincy, 850-875-6798.
Section 379.353 makes hunting, freshwater and saltwater fishing licences free for a resident rated totally and permanently disabled by VA or a branch of the armed forces, and, for licences issued after July 1, 2024, for an honorably discharged veteran with a service-connected rating of 50% or more; see the Florida entry. The Tax Collector sells and issues Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission licences in Gadsden County.
What the page says. Its hunting and fishing page says two things. In the exceptions: "Permanently disabled residents can obtain a special exemption card. An authorized disability statement from the Social Security office or Veterans Administration must be presented upon application. This permit is free." Lower down: "To obtain a disabled person's hunting and fishing license, the disabled person must present an awards letter from the Social Security Administration to the Tax Collector's office."
Where it is narrower than the law. The second statement leaves out both veteran routes, and neither mentions the 50% route. A veteran rated totally and permanently disabled, or rated 50% or more with an honourable discharge, should bring the VA benefit summary letter and, for the 50% route, the DD-214; no Social Security letter is needed. Licences on either route last five years.
