Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the page says. Furnas County's Veterans Services page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items; the applicant "must apply through the County Service Office in Furnas County" and "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "served on active duty, received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Veterans Aid Fund-Furnas Co, levies no tax and lives on interest: it held $11,076.48 on July 1, 2023, paid nothing in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025, and held $11,542.03 on July 1, 2025, all of it budgeted for 2025-2026. No aid fund claim appears in the Board's proceedings of July 2025 to October 13, 2026. How to apply. Furnas County is served by the Red Willow County Veterans Service Office, 322 Norris Avenue, McCook, (308) 345-2385 (see that entry, which also serves Furnas County). See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
