Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The District Court in Frederick and Washington counties, District 11, announced a regional veterans treatment court in January 2024, Maryland's second multi-county problem-solving court. It provides court-supervised, intensive treatment, accountability, and mentoring for veterans who have committed crimes and may have post-traumatic stress, a traumatic brain injury, another mental health condition, or a substance use disorder, and connects them to VA benefits, housing, and local resources. Veterans serve as peer mentors. The Judiciary's September 2026 directory lists the coordinator at the District Court, 100 West Patrick Street, Frederick, (301) 600-2659. Entry comes through the criminal case, so a veteran or the veteran's lawyer should raise it with the court. It is not a tax break or a benefit a veteran applies for outside a criminal case.
