Frederick County Disabled Veteran Vehicle Tax Exemption

Frederick County exempts one motor vehicle from personal property tax for a veteran of the Armed Forces or Virginia National Guard rated 100% permanent and total, or total because of individual unemployability.

Also called: car tax, personal property, vehicle tax, Frederick car tax, TDIU.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Commissioner of the Revenue applies the statewide one-vehicle exemption. One motor vehicle owned and used primarily by or for the veteran is exempt from county personal property tax. The veteran must be in the Armed Forces or the Virginia National Guard and must have either a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total rating, or a total disability rating based on individual unemployability from a service-connected disability. The county asks for a VA certification letter. A change of vehicle needs a new application. The Personal Property Division takes the form. This is separate from the elderly and disabled real estate program, and it is separate from the ordinary state car-tax relief that reduces the bill on personal-use vehicles.
