Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Franklin County Municipal Court runs the Military and Veteran Services specialized docket, known as MAVS, a voluntary probation docket certified by the Supreme Court of Ohio. Who can enter. A veteran with a pending eligible misdemeanor or felony charge and a current mental health or substance use problem. The court states that combat service and an honorable discharge are not required. How it works. The participant talks to a lawyer, discusses transfer of the case with the assigned judge and referral with the prosecutor, is assessed, and then meets phase requirements over a two-year probation: status review hearings, probation and coordinator meetings, drug and alcohol testing and treatment, a peer mentor, and VA and veteran services. Charges may be dismissed on successful completion. The Court of Common Pleas, which hears felony cases, lists only a drug treatment docket and a mental health docket among its specialized dockets and has no veterans docket.
