Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Article 2 of Chapter 15 of the Fluvanna County Code levies an annual license fee of $33.00 on every motor vehicle, $18.00 on every motorcycle and $18.00 on trailers and semi-trailers, payable to the Treasurer and due June 5 each year (section 15-2-3). Section 15-2-3 exempts vehicles owned by active members of volunteer rescue squads and active members of volunteer fire companies, and section 15-2-5 provides that the article requires no fee of "any person exempted under the provisions of any statute of the state". The state bar in section 46.2-755(B) of the Code of Virginia (a Commonwealth entry) prohibits a county license fee on the one vehicle of a veteran with Disabled Veteran plates and on the qualifying vehicles of former prisoners of war and Medal of Honor, Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipients, so those veterans owe no Fluvanna fee through section 15-2-5. The county code names no veteran exemption of its own; a veteran who is billed one anyway should ask the Treasurer and cite section 46.2-755(B).
