Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

In most Florida counties the tax collector, not a state office, issues driver licences and identification cards. Section 322.135(1)(c) of the Florida Statutes requires the tax collector to add a $6.25 service fee to those transactions, once a visit, but says the fee "may not be charged ... To a veteran receiving any service pursuant to this chapter", on a copy of: - the DD-214; - the VA Veteran Health Identification Card; - the VA Veteran Identification Card; or - another form the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs accepts. The waiver, added by chapter 2018-80, covers only the tax collector's service fee, not the State's licence fees. A veteran with a 100% permanent and total rating also pays no State licence fee; see the Florida entry on that waiver. Adding the word "Veteran" to the licence is free when it is the only change; see the Florida entry on claims assistance. The section does not define veteran by discharge, so the DD-214 need not show an honorable discharge on its words.
