Fayette County: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemptions (LDV1 and LDV2)
Fayette County's Board of Assessors gives a 100% disabled or 100%-rate veteran the $126,526 exemption off the 40% assessed value with a 50% cut in school taxes (code LDV1), or a 100% school tax exemption (LDV2) when household Georgia taxable income is under $15,000; the unremarried widow(er) keeps it. Filing runs to the end of the 45-day appeal window.
Also called: property tax, homestead, 48-5-48, $126,526, LDV1, LDV2, school tax, Board of Assessors, Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Tyrone.
The base exemption is the State's, under Code section 48-5-48; see the Georgia entry. Fayette County's Board of Assessors lists two disabled veteran codes on its exemptions page.
LDV1. "If you are a 100% disabled veteran (service-related) or paid at the 100% rate, you may qualify for a Disabled Veterans Exemption, which will provide additional savings on your property tax bill. This is a $126,526.00 exemption that is deducted from the 40% assessed value of your home. This exemption also includes a 50% reduction in school taxes. The unremarried widow(er) continuously occupying the residence may continue to receive this same exemption."
LDV2. The same exemption "with 100% School Tax Exemption" for a household whose Georgia state taxable income is under $15,000: "This exemption would result in a 100% reduction of the school taxes in combination with the Disabled Veterans Exemption." Bring the Georgia Form 500, or, if no one files, "copies of two current consecutive monthly bank statements for all household members."
What to bring. A Georgia driver's licence, military ID, DD Form 214 and "the letter from the Veterans Administration stating that you are 100% disabled or paid at the 100% rate", plus the recorded deed or settlement statement for a home bought within the year.
When. "Taxpayers can now apply for the homestead exemption beyond the historic deadline of April 1st. They may apply for the exemption until the end of the 45-day window to appeal their notice of assessment in the current tax year", the change Senate Bill 566 (2026) made. Applications are made in person at the Board of Assessors, 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Suite 108, Fayetteville (770-305-5402), or online.

100% service-connected
A 100% service-related rating qualifies; so does being paid at the 100% rate. LDV2 adds a household Georgia taxable income under $15,000.
Paid at the 100% rate
A veteran paid at the 100% rate for unemployability qualifies; the Board of Assessors says so.
