Fauquier County Sewer Fee Reduction in the Catlett and Calverton District
A 25% reduction of the biannual sewer utility fee in Fauquier’s Catlett and Calverton sewer district for an owner holding the disabled veteran, surviving spouse, or elderly and disabled real estate exemption.
Also called: sewer fee, utility fee, Catlett, Calverton.
Section 17-63(d) of the Fauquier County Code gives a 25% reduction of the biannual sewer utility fee to owners in the Catlett and Calverton Sewer District, and owners who connected to the county sewer system under section 17-55(a)(2), who receive a county real estate tax exemption for the elderly, the disabled, a veteran with a 100% service-connected disability, the surviving spouse of such a veteran, or the surviving spouse of a veteran killed in action. It applies to the principal residence and up to five contiguous acres. The Commissioner of the Revenue applies the abatement.
The section's reference to spouses of veterans "killed in action" predates 2024 Acts chapter 583, which widened that exemption to any line-of-duty death from January 1, 2025. A spouse who holds the widened exemption holds a county real estate exemption for a surviving spouse and should ask for the reduction.
