Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Everett grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Statutory Exemptions page prints $400 under clause 22 for a war-service-connected disability of 10 percent, $750 under 22A, $1,250 under 22B, $1,500 under 22C, 100 per cent under 22D, $1,000 under 22E and 100 per cent under 22F. These are the statute’s amounts, and the page names no local option; no council order accepting clause 22I or 22J was found in the city’s online records. The city serves from cityofeverett.com, to which www.ci.everett.ma.us redirects; cityofeverett.org, the domain of the city’s own email addresses, no longer resolves. The Veterans page names Gerri Miranda the Veterans Agent at the Connolly Center, 90 Chelsea Street (617-394-2320), where the EOVS directory lists Paul Landry at the same address (617-394-2321). Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Everett Veterans Services: Gerri Miranda, Veterans Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
