Etowah County Revenue Commissioner: Disability Exemption and Homestead

Etowah County takes the State homestead and disability exemption claims at its Revenue Commissioner office at 800 Forrest Avenue, Gadsden; the office publishes its departments online but no exemption text.

Also called: property tax, homestead, revenue commissioner, ad valorem, disability exemption, Becky Nordgren.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The State exemptions are the substance here: Code section 40-9-21's complete exemption for a person permanently and totally disabled on the principal residence and up to 160 acres, and section 40-9-19's routes, as the State's principal-residence entries explain. In Etowah County the claims are taken by the Revenue Commissioner, Becky Nordgren, 800 Forrest Avenue, Gadsden 35901, 256-549-1444. What is published. The Revenue Commissioner's pages cover appraisal, assessing and collections, business personal property, mapping and tags and titles, and point to the county's property-tax information and payment site. None of the county's pages publishes the H-series exemption rules, so an Etowah claimant goes to the office with the State's forms and proofs; the Veterans Service Office upstairs at the same address can help assemble the claim.
