Essex Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Essex’s important-dates page gives the additional veteran’s exemption a February 1 to October 1 filing period at income limits, requires the DD-214 by September 30, and posts the D-2 and active duty motor vehicle forms.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Essex.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s Important Dates, Veterans, and Miscellaneous Information page sets “February 1 to October 1, Annually - The filing period for Additional Veteran’s Exemption. Income limits apply for this program,” and “September 30 - Deadline for Veteran’s to file their DD214 with the Town Clerk to obtain exemption on the October 1st Grand List.” It adds that veterans with a disability rating must file the initial VA disability letter with the assessor, once unless status changes; that totally disabled veterans with a 100 percent service-connected disability must file Form D-2 as required by 12-93 annually, not later than January 1, with supporting documentation including a current VA statement of benefits; and that active-duty personnel stationed outside Connecticut must file a written application for the exemption of one passenger motor vehicle. No amount is printed anywhere on the page. The assessor’s document list carries the Active Duty Military CT Resident Exemption for Motor Vehicle and the Active Duty Military Out of State Resident MV Exemption Form. Essex answered OLR’s 2023 survey recording no municipal option. The town’s code was found on no readable host.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
