Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The El Paso County Veterans Assistance Heroes Project gives one-time emergency assistance with housing and utilities to veterans and their families in El Paso County who are in need. It is run by the county's Veterans Assistance office and paid for by a General Assistance grant from the Texas Veterans Commission's Fund for Veterans' Assistance. Who can apply. Active-duty members, reservists and Guard members; veterans discharged honorable, general under honorable conditions, or other than honorable; and dependents and surviving spouses of veterans. The office vets each request "to ensure funds are provided to those facing the greatest hardships", so meeting the criteria does not guarantee payment. What to send. Documents showing the emergency or the unexpected expense, financial records, and the unpaid lease or utility bill, with: - a serving member's current military ID; - a veteran's DD-214 showing the character of discharge; - for a dependent, a current ID card or the veteran's DD-214; - for a surviving spouse, the veteran's DD-214, the marriage licence, the death certificate and the VA award letter. The application and document list are on the county's Financial Assistance page and go by email to the Fund for Veterans' Assistance programme coordinator.
