County code 2.50.300 creates a three-member Veterans Service Commission appointed by the County Board Chair, meeting quarterly with a $30 per diem, furnishing aid under the 45.86 levy limited to county residents, from special fund "100-20-55500 Veterans - direct relief". In practice the 2025 aid ran to 53 gas-and-food-card grants totaling $6,430 (average $121) and a CVTC dental-services program that treated 13 veterans for $9,007, funded by a restricted donation carryforward of about $151,000; the 2026 levy is $313,361 plus a $17,875 state grant. The county's own park pass: a free annual entrance sticker for veterans rated 70 percent or more service-connected, paid at the total rate on individual unemployability, or former POWs, certified by the CVSO with a VA rating letter and DD-214 - in place since January 1, 2013, against the $6 daily and $35 annual rates. The DAV van runs to the Minneapolis VA every Tuesday, about 80 to 100 veterans a year, kept alive by a part-time county-paid driver created in March 2026 ($6,912 a year) after eight weeks of 2025 cancellations for lack of volunteers. The register of deeds (Tina Pommier, Suite 1310, (715) 839-4745) records discharges free under section 45.05.
