What the permits are. The Eastland County Water Supply District's board resolved on December 14, 2023 to create Parkland Permits "available at no cost for free entry to all Eastland County Water Supply District Parks":
- Military Service-Connected Disabled American Veteran: free entry for the veteran "and their immediate family", with a photo ID and proof of the service-connected disability.
- Active-Duty Military: free entry for a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or Space Force, Reserve and National Guard included, with a photo ID and proof of active-duty service from the Department of Defense.
- Veterans: free entry for a veteran "honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces", with a photo ID and a DoD veteran ID card, a driver's license or State ID card carrying the veteran designation, discharge papers (DD-214) or a VA health card.
- Gold Star: free entry for the surviving spouse, parent, child or sibling (stepsiblings and stepparents included) of a person who died while serving; each must apply separately with a photo ID, proof of the casualty and proof of the relationship. Grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins are not eligible.
The posted copy shows the "We Salute Our Veterans" and "Gold Star Family" complimentary park pass stickers.
Where to get one. The county's Veteran's Services page: "Permits available at the County Courthouse," 100 West Main, Eastland. The water district is a separate body with its own board; the page and resolution give no fee schedule for others, list of the district's parks or expiry for the permits, so ask the Veterans' Services office (505-803-0512) or the district.
