Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Easthampton grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ Taxpayer’s Guide to Real Estate Tax Exemptions (updated May 18, 2026 for fiscal 2027) gives $411 under clause 22, $771 under 22A, $1,284 under 22B, $1,541 under 22C, a full exemption under 22D, $1,027 under 22E (a VA Summary of Benefits letter filed annually) and a full exemption under 22F. Each is the statutory amount raised by the Department of Revenue’s fiscal 2027 clause 22I adjustment of 2.7 percent, to the next dollar; the guide names no clause, and no council vote was found in the city’s online records. The guide’s residence test still asks six months’ Massachusetts domicile before entering service or one consecutive year before the tax year begins, where the statute now asks two consecutive years before filing. Applications are due April 1, 2027. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Easthampton Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
