Ordinance 18-04, adopted at a special town meeting November 1, 2018 under 12-81f, gives any person entitled to the veterans’ exemption under 12-81(19), (20) or (22) an additional exemption of up to $6,000 of assessed value, provided qualifying income does not exceed the applicable maximum of 12-81l; the application goes to the assessor by the assessment date, with biennial renewal. Ordinance 23-02, adopted March 22, 2023 under section 33 of Public Act 22-34 (now 12-81kk), gives a veteran whose federal adjusted gross income is $51,100 or less an exemption of 10 percent of the assessed value of the dwelling the veteran owns and occupies as a primary residence. The ordinance prints $51,100; the statute’s own limit is $50,100, so confirm the current figure with the assessor. Ordinance 26-01, adopted February 5, 2026 and effective February 24, 2026, adopts the 2025 local options for assessment years from October 1, 2025: in lieu of the 12-81(20) exemption, the dwelling exemption for a veteran with a service-connected total disability based on individual unemployability (12-81pp); the 12-81(83)(F) dwelling exemption for the surviving spouse of a veteran rated 100 percent permanently and totally disabled who died before October 1, 2024 and after January 1, 2013; the 12-81qq exemption for the surviving spouse and the 12-81ii exemption for the parent of a person killed in action; and a limit of two acres of land with the dwelling. Ordinance 86-2, adopted April 1, 1986, exempts from personal property taxation, pursuant to 12-81c, privately owned ambulance-type vehicles and vehicles equipped with special hand controls or other adaptations for physically disabled drivers or passengers, on an application filed within 30 days after the assessment date. The assessor’s page also describes a homestead exemption of 15 percent of assessed value under 12-81oo, effective with the October 1, 2026 grand list, which is not limited to veterans.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
