East Hampton’s assessor details the wartime exemption on a DD-214 filed by September 30, the income-driven additional exemption filed February 1 to October 1, active duty motor vehicle exemptions, and the Public Act 24-46 dwelling exemption; a local-option application is posted as a scan with no readable amount.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, East Hampton.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s page requires an original or certified copy of the honorable discharge or similar document with the Town Clerk, filing deadline September 30. The additional veterans exemption, which “has certain income restrictions”, is filed February 1st through October 1st. Active duty military and active duty National Guard members with 90 days or more cumulative service in a designated war period file a letter of active duty status annually by September 30, and may exempt one vehicle; veterans and active duty members may claim a refund of taxes on a leased vehicle by the December 31 following the assessment year. Veterans claiming a disability exemption submit VA proof of the percentage during the assessment period, refiling only on a change. The assessor’s Public Act 24-46 page asks veterans holding a disability rating to file a current VA award letter for the exemption C.G.S. 12-81(83) gives a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent, and links the act and an OLR question-and-answer. The form list on the assessor’s veterans benefits page carries a “Local Option Veterans Form - Application for additional veteran’s exemption - Local option”, posted as a scan with no readable text, so no local amount could be printed; ask the assessor. No consolidated code was found on the town’s site, and the town did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
