A Veterans Treatment Court is a court-supervised program that provides justice-involved veterans with the structure, accountability, treatment, and mentoring needed to repair their lives. By keeping veterans out of jail and prison, the court states, the goal is to help save their lives, families and futures while reducing costs to taxpayers. The 19th JDC's Veterans Treatment Court officially launched in 2022 when the court received a $700,000 Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, under the guidance of presiding Judge Ron Johnson. The court is at the 19th Judicial District Court, 300 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge 70802, 225-389-4700. The court's page publishes the VTC Participant Handbook, VTC Mentor Manual and VTC Policies and Procedures. Under Louisiana's veterans court statute, R.S. 13:5361 et seq., the district court may establish the program; the State entries carry the framework.
