The Dutchess County Office of Veterans Affairs is the county agency every New York county must keep under Veterans' Services Law 14; see the New York entry on local veterans' service agencies. "The Office of Veterans Affairs ensures our County veterans and their families receive their maximum eligible benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies at all levels of government. Veterans must apply to receive these benefits. They are not automatic. We offer a professional, personalized analysis for every veteran and their family".
Bring your separation papers. "Because some benefits expire within a set amount of time following your day of separation, please visit our office as soon as possible with your original military separation papers, such as: DD-214, WDAGO 53-55, NAVPERS 533". If they are lost, the office gets them for you.
Mobile outreach. "Our newest Veterans Services Officer (VSO) Beth-Anne Canero is a mobile VSO offering in-person help in communities throughout Dutchess County on evenings and weekends"; the office's events calendar lists the stops.
