Durham Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Durham’s assessor page names the state programs - the DD-214 filing, the disability rating letter, the 12-81g additional exemption and the D-2 annual filing - without printing an amount.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Durham.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s veterans page requires the long-form DD214 in the Town Clerk’s office prior to October 1 for the basic exemption, and says a veteran whose service-connected disability is at least 10 percent files the VA rating letter, which must state the percentage and whether the disability is permanent and total. From October 1, 2025 a veteran awarded a 100 percent service-connected permanent and total rating files Form D-2 annually, received in the assessor’s office no later than January 1. The page says that under 12-81g “you may be eligible for the Additional Veterans exemption, an income-based exemption program,” applied for February 1 through October 1, without an amount or income limit. For active-duty military one vehicle is exempt, on the proper form, Connecticut residents filing under 12-81(53) and non-residents under the federal Service Members Civil Relief Act. No amounts are printed anywhere, and the Q and A booklet the page links is the state’s 2013 edition. No code was found on a readable host for Durham, and the town did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
