Douglas County's Veterans Treatment Court is one of Nebraska's problem-solving courts, established only with Nebraska Supreme Court approval and governed by the Supreme Court's Committee on Problem-Solving Courts. Nebraska's veterans treatment courts reduce recidivism through early intervention, appropriate treatment, intensive supervision and consistent judicial oversight; a team of judge, prosecutor, defense counsel, coordinator, community supervision officer, law enforcement representative, treatment provider and Veterans Health Administration designs an individualized programme for each participant, verified by frequent alcohol and drug testing, close community supervision and judicial review hearings, with home and field visits. Trained volunteer veteran mentors act as role models and guide readjustment. The state's court locations list names Douglas County's coordinator, Rob Owens, at (402) 889-2643, [email protected]. A veteran with a criminal case in Douglas County can ask defense counsel, the prosecutor or the court about entry; Douglas County's courts are the Fourth Judicial District's District Court and Juvenile Court.
