Douglas County Veterans Emergency Assistance Funds
Douglas County's Veterans Service Office gives emergency help from a State grant to Douglas County veterans with an other than dishonorable discharge and a genuine need, for rent or mortgage, transportation, medical needs, food and similar costs, paid to the vendor or by gift card. Apply online with the DD-214 and proof of current residence.
Also called: emergency assistance, rent help, mortgage help, Veterans Assistance Grant, Veterans Trust Fund, gift card, Castle Rock, utility bill.
The County receives a State grant to help veterans struggling with housing (mortgage and rent), transportation, employment, health care and other emergencies; see the Colorado entry on the Veterans Trust Fund and Veterans Assistance Grants, which reach veterans only through funded organisations such as this office.
Who. A veteran separated with an other than dishonorable discharge, shown by the DD-214 or, while it is awaited, another government document that shows the character of service; a genuine need, shown for example by an eviction notice, medical or prescription needs, ADA home modification, or food; and current residence in Douglas County, shown by a utility bill or similar mail. The criteria say a mortgage or driver's licence will not be accepted as proof of where someone lives now, though the form's upload field lists a driver's licence first; send a utility bill to be safe.
How. Apply on the office's online form, attaching the DD-214, proof of residence and the bill, mortgage statement or lease, and describing the short-term request and the long-term plan. The vendor is paid directly. A gift card or food card may be spent only on healthy food or the items it is issued for, with no alcohol or tobacco, and the receipts must be mailed to the office within seven days. Questions go to 303-663-6200.
