Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Recording Office's fee list includes "Military Discharge/DD-214: No Charge", against $43 a document for most other recordings. C.R.S. 30-1-103, which sets clerk and recorder fees, names no discharge exemption, so the free recording is the Clerk's own practice, as in El Paso, Arapahoe and Denver. How. Bring or mail the document to the Recording Office in Castle Rock; recorded documents are returned to the return address on them, or in a self-addressed envelope sent with them. Who can see it. C.R.S. 24-72-204(3)(a)(XVIII) closes discharge records filed with a county clerk and recorder to the public and opens them only to the veteran or, if the veteran has died, to the veteran's parents, siblings, widow or widower, and children. The Recording Office's pages do not say how it releases a recorded DD-214; ask before requesting a copy.
