Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Code section 48-5-48; see the Georgia entry. Dougherty County's Board of Assessors: "Several types of exemptions are provided on both the state and local level to help reduce the burden of ad valorem taxation on Georgia property owners ... Homestead Exemptions can be filed in the Tax Assessors Office. Applications can be filed at any time during the year but must be filed before April 1st to be applied for the current tax year. Once granted, the homestead exemption is automatically renewed each year." The county's own list. The Board's 2025 Homestead Exemptions workbook (XLSX, on the county site) carries the veteran rows with their 2025 amounts, deducted from assessed value: S5 "Disabled Veteran" $121,812 (city, county and school); SD "Age 65 100% Disabled Veteran" $121,812; SE "Age 65 Surviving Spouse Veteran" $121,812; "100% Disabled Veteran/ Unremarried Surviving Spouse" $121,812; and "Unremarried Spouse of FF or Police KILD" $9,999,999 - a total exemption. The workbook notes "Exemption Amounts are deducted from the property's assessed value" and "Veteran Exemption amounts are updated yearly by the GA DOR". The current federal maximum governs; the State entry carries it. The county also links its exemption list to qPublic's Dougherty exemptions page, which answers a 403 to every automated fetch, so the workbook is the readable copy.
