Doña Ana County Assessor: Veteran and Disabled Veteran Tax Exemptions

The Doña Ana County Assessor takes the State's veteran and disabled veteran exemptions on the Department of Veterans Services' DVS Form 1, hosted with a 2026 disabled veteran certification form and a claim for property tax exemption, and lists the 2023 House Bill 90 full exemption for a 100% disabled veteran among the statute changes it tracks.

Also called: property tax, veteran exemption, 7-37-5, 7-37-5.1, DVS Form 1, House Bill 90, Las Cruces, assessor.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are State law: the veteran exemption (7-37-5), $10,000 of taxable value since 2025 (it was $4,000 before), and the disabled veteran exemption proportional to a service-connected rating (7-37-5.1); the New Mexico entries explain both. The Department of Veterans' Services certifies eligibility and the county assessor applies the exemption. What the Assessor hosts. Its 2025 forms page carries "Application for Veterans Tax Exemption" - "DVS FORM 1 (Revised July 2021)... applicatioN for VeteraN tax exeMptioN aND DisableD VeteraN tax exeMptioN. ApplicAtion if for: o VETERAN TAX EXEMPTION o DISABLED VETERAN TAX EXEMPTION" - beside a "2026_DisabledVeteranCertificationFormFillable.pdf" and a "CLAIM FOR PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FILLABLE.pdf". Its property-tax-law page lists "House Bill 90 - 100% Disable Veteran (PDF)" among the changes in state statutes affecting property values - the 2023 act that made the disabled veteran exemption proportional, effective for 2024 claims. What the county does not publish. No county-stated deadline appears on the pages read; the statutory rules are in the State entries - claim with the county assessor, and the DVS certification travels with the application. The county's own pages name no veterans service office; NMDVS handles claims help, and its nearest office list is on the State entry.
