The office. The Deuel County Veterans Service Office is at 171 Vincent Avenue, Chappell, NE 69129 (mail PO Box 327), phone (308) 874-2477, [email protected]. The county's page gives its hours as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the State's directory, updated October 26, 2026, says Monday to Friday by appointment, so call first. The page describes an office that serves "under the direction of the Veterans' Service Committee appointed by the Board of Commissioners" to file "all County, State or Federal benefits", lists the State's aid fund, tuition waiver, discharge copies, grave registration and veterans homes and the federal benefits it files, and urges any veteran rated at least 0 percent to claim the motor vehicle tax and fee exemption (see the Nebraska entry). Its flag holders go to the family of a deceased veteran buried in the county who "served during 'war time' and received an Honorable Discharge", one at no cost (see the Nebraska entry on the county's burial and grave-marker duty for the statute's own test). The County Clerk records a DD-214 brought in (see the Nebraska entry on the Discharge Record). How the office was filled. The Board appointed Patricia Nelson officer for 2025 at $850.00 a month (January 7, 2025); she reported in October 2025 on a Quilt of Valor presentation with the 4-H office and a fair table shared with the VFW. In January 2026 the Board tabled her re-appointment (January 6) and then voted not to re-appoint her (January 20), and on March 17, 2026, on the Veterans Board's recommendation, appointed Charles (Chip) Graves at $1,000 a month. The Board re-appointed Larry McCroden and Jim Peterman to the Veterans' Service Board on January 6, 2026, beside Terry Livengood and Ron Bayne (to 2028) and Jerod Elms (to 2029). The officer's monthly report is filed with the Board (May 5, 2026). The Board's year. On October 7, 2025 the Board adopted Resolution 2025-0017 making Deuel County a Green Light for Veterans county and lighting the courthouse green from November 4 to 11, 2025, and on November 4, 2025 it approved the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' two-year memorandum for the office's software. The money. The office (0100-803) spent $14,579.00 in 2024-2025 and $13,245.43 in 2025-2026, and the 2026-2027 budget, signed by Mr. Graves on September 15, 2026, adopts $20,025.00, a $14,400.00 official's salary among it.
