Delta County Veteran Services (Dave Dziewior, Veterans Affairs Director, Escanaba)
Delta County Veteran Services - Veterans Affairs Director Dave Dziewior (906-786-7228), 2840 College Avenue, Suite #2, Escanaba, in the Delta County Service Center, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment - is the millage-funded Department of Veterans Affairs the county's voters created in 2024, filing claims and sorting out veterans' problems for the county's roughly 2,900 veterans.
Also called: Veteran Services, VSO, Veterans Affairs, Dave Dziewior, 906-786-7228, 2840 College Ave, Escanaba, Service Center, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, MVAA, DD214, claims, Escanaba, Gladstone, Rapid River, Bark River, Ford River, Cornell, Garden, Nahma.
For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.
The office. The county's Veteran Services page: "VSO: Dave Dziewior. Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM to 4PM by appointment only. Phone: (906) 786-7228. Located in the Delta County Service Center: 2840 College Avenue Suite #2 Escanaba, MI 49829." The county directory lists him as the Veteran Services Office head; since October 2025 his title in the Board's minutes is Veterans Affairs Director, the office having grown under the 2024 millage (see the millage entry) from a single Veteran Service Officer into a department with two VSOs. His own account of the millage win: "This is the first time this county has done something like this since it was officially organized like 160 years ago ... This is a great step in the continuation of our efforts to bring the best possible services and support to all of our county veterans, dependents, and their spouses. Although this will take a little bit of time, it will get us, I think, on track for great things in the future." (WZMQ, November 6, 2024.)
The millage. Delta County voters approved a 0.10-mill, five-year Veterans Service Office millage on November 5, 2024 with about 74 percent of the vote - "the first time this county has done something like this since it was officially organized like 160 years ago," Dziewior said - funding "services for veterans and ... a county Veterans Affairs Department" at roughly 150,000 dollars a year, with a second full-time VSO and an administrative assistant the stated priority. A second VSO was in place by February 17, 2026 (see the board's entry). The office's own premises came from an earlier state grant: "We were approved for the grant back in March from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency" - 71,000 dollars for "office relocation and expansion ... so we could enhance and increase our service to the county veterans" - which moved the office from a single room at the Delta County Airport to the Service Center in 2020 (Daily Press).
