Delaware County Veterans ID Card and Free Discharge Recording
Delaware County's Recorder of Deeds records a veteran's DD-214 and issues a free photo Veterans ID Card, in about five minutes, to a veteran discharged under honorable conditions; participating businesses give a discount on the card. The county relaunched the discount programme in 2026.
Also called: veteran ID card, veterans discount card, DD-214, DD214, discharge, recorder of deeds, Media, Government Center.
Recording. The Recorder of Deeds scans and records a veteran's DD-214 issued after 1950, or other separation documents, at Room 108 of the Delaware County Government Center, 201 W. Front Street, Media, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring every separation document and a photo ID. The Recorder's fee schedule lists recording and copies of veterans' discharges as free. A veteran who cannot find a discharge can get the application for a copy from the National Personnel Records Center at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The Veterans ID Card. The Recorder issues the free photo card, in about five minutes, to a veteran discharged under honorable conditions who records the discharge. If the DD-214 does not show the character of service, bring a document such as the honorable discharge certificate. The card certifies the veteran's service, and participating Delaware County businesses honour it for a discount; in 2026 the county relaunched an enhanced discount programme, inviting businesses to add an active-military discount on a current military ID.
Who can see the record. The county page says copies are open only to the veteran, the family or authorized military personnel. Under 16 Pa.C.S. 1303 a recorded discharge is confidential for 85 years and goes to the veteran, an immediate family member, someone the veteran authorises in writing, a court, the county director or a State or federal agency.
Who gets which. The card needs a discharge under honorable conditions; recording does not, since the recorder must record each final discharge.
