District of Columbia Fishing Licence, and Why There Is No Hunting Licence

Hunting and fishing discounts are one of the most common state veteran benefits in this catalog. The District has neither. Fishing. The Department of Energy and Environment sells a District fishing licence for $10 to a resident and $13 to a non-resident. Anyone fishing District waters needs one, including from the Virginia shoreline of the Potomac and from National Park Service land. The only exemptions are for persons under 16 and persons 65 or older. There is no exemption or discount for veterans, disabled veterans, service members or Purple Heart recipients. The Code's Fishing License Fund, D.C. Code 8-103.03a, puts the money into fish and wildlife management. Hunting. The Department of Energy and Environment sells no hunting licence, and the Code's hunting permit sections, including D.C. Code 8-2221.22 on squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits and 8-2221.24 on waterfowl, have been repealed. A District veteran who hunts buys another state's licence as a non-resident. Parks. Most of the District's large parks, Rock Creek Park and the National Mall among them, are federal land run by the National Park Service, so federal park passes rather than any District benefit apply there.
