Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The county's page puts the Dawes County Veterans Service Office in its own building at 342 Main Street, Chadron, NE 69337, phone (308) 432-0119, fax (308) 432-8105, emergency phone (308) 430-1510, [email protected], open weekdays 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. The Veterans Service Officer is Robert Jordan, listed by the State's directory (updated October 26, 2026) as Spike Jordan, with secretary Martha Quay ([email protected]). The county's home page describes the office as one that "Files and processes veterans claims, assists veterans, widows & family, and those currently serving", and the officer "encourages you to contact him to ensure that you are provided with the best options for your situation." Two counties. On August 12, 2025 the Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement under which Dawes County's office serves Sioux County: Sioux County pays Dawes $10,620.00 a year and pays for all grave markers in the Sioux County Cemetery; the chairman signed it on December 9, 2025. The State's directory lists Spike Jordan as Sioux County's officer at the Sioux courthouse, 325 Main Street, Harrison (PO Box 158, Harrison, NE 69346), by appointment, [email protected]. Sioux County's side. Sioux County's filed 2025-2026 budget turns its Veterans Service Officer line (0100-803) from an officer's salary of its own ($7,508.70 in 2024-2025) into "Contract Services" of $10,620.00 for 2025-2026, the agreement's yearly amount, with $300.00 for grave markers and flags; it keeps no veterans aid fund (see the Sioux County aid entry). Sioux County's Board of Commissioners took no action on the agreement on March 3, 2025, heard Mr. Jordan present it on July 1, 2025, when he said he would again take veterans to Yutan for dental treatment that year, and approved it on August 18, 2025; on February 2, 2026 he met with the Board on veterans' bills in the Legislature. Sioux County's Veterans Services page lists Spike Jordan at this office's number, 308-432-0119, and [email protected], and its County Clerk's page says the Veterans Service Officer records a veteran's DD-214 brought to the office. Rides. The office drives veterans to appointments, and the 2025-2026 budget pays a driver $15,000.00 ($10,177.14 in 2024-2025). On August 26, 2025 Mr. Jordan told the Commissioners that under a memorandum with Open Plains Transit the office had been paid $1.00 a mile for transporting veterans, about $10,000.00 so far, and the Commissioners approved a new memorandum at $1.50 a mile. Ask the office, (308) 432-0119, about a ride. The Board's year. On January 27, 2026 the Commissioners signed the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' memorandum for the VetraSpec software through December 31, 2028. On May 26, 2026 they granted a veteran's request for leniency on the timeline for the disabled veteran motor vehicle tax exemption (LB650; see the Nebraska entry), and the Board of Equalization ratified the exemption on June 9, 2026. The money. The filed 2025-2026 budget gives the office (803 Veterans Service) $113,605.00, against $97,433.40 spent in 2024-2025, including $1,000.00 for grave markers and flags.
