Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Dauphin County Veterans Affairs is the office every Pennsylvania county must have: a director of veterans affairs appointed by the county (16 Pa.C.S. 15524). See the Pennsylvania entry on county directors. Director and service officer Thomas Coreau; Administration Building, fourth floor, 2 South 2nd Street, Harrisburg PA 17101; 717-780-6356 or 717-780-6357; fax 717-780-6330; [email protected]. What it does. VA compensation, pension, aid and attendance and survivors' claims; VA health care enrolment; the State real estate tax exemption, Veterans' Temporary Assistance, the blind veterans' pension, the amputee and paralyzed veterans' pension and the educational gratuity; the county burial allowance and grave markers; flag markers for a veteran's grave, which the FAQ says to request with the veteran's name, branch of service, war era, cemetery and requester; applications under the State's Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans' Benefit Program (Act 29 of 2006), whose digest the office posts; and a veterans' employment page of job listings from employers that want to hire veterans. Each November the office presents Operation Green Light for Veterans to the Commissioners. County benefits, as the office's own digest states them. The burial allowance goes to a deceased wartime veteran or a veteran's spouse, applied for within one year of death, whether or not the veteran died or is buried in the county; the county also supplies an initial grave marker, and a headstone allowance with no time limit. Certified copies of marriage and divorce records are issued without cost to disabled wartime veterans and their dependents. Discharge certificates are recorded free at the courthouse; see the Recorder of Deeds entry. Where the pages are thin. The site publishes no amount for the burial allowance and no application forms for the county benefits; the digest restates the County Code and defers to the office. The State figures are in the Pennsylvania entries.
