Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

North Carolina counties run veterans service offices; see the North Carolina entry on county veterans service offices. Currituck's Veteran Services Officer is Noel Gregory, "Proudly Serving the Veterans of Currituck and Camden Counties, North Carolina": the office at 153 Courthouse Road, Suite 211, Currituck, NC 27929, phone 252-435-4593, serves both counties - in Currituck on Monday and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon, in Camden on Tuesday and Thursday. "Our office is open by appointment", and a submission form on the site reaches the officer directly. "If you're a veteran or a family member of a veteran and need assistance with any aspect of veterans' services, I'm here to help." Claims. The FAQ explains what can be claimed (conditions caused by service or diagnosed while on active duty), when a nexus letter from the veteran's physician is needed and when it is not - "a nexus letter is not required if the condition is a Veteran Affairs (VA) recognized presumptive due to a military toxic exposure", the PACT Act presumptives - and what a compensation claim file needs: the DD-214, a voided check or direct-deposit slip, and civilian medical records with an official diagnosis for each condition. The Benefits Due at Discharge page covers the BDD programme: claims must be submitted 60 to 180 days before separation, with digital service treatment records, the banking information and, absent a retirement physical, a self-health assessment. The county's own record. The Board adopted Budget Amendment #2026077 "to receive Veterans Affairs Grant funds" 7-0 on April 20, 2026 (the amendment's attachment sits behind the portal's challenge, so the grant's programme and amount are not recorded). The county also keeps a Submitted Veterans information registry, last updated September 21, 2026, with War of 1812 and Civil War compilations by Barbara Snowden and a World War I veterans page.
