Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the page says. The County Veterans Aid tab calls the fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items; the veteran "must document an inability to meet the obligation to pay these bills, via an application". The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who served on active duty, "received an Honorable discharge" and "served during one of the defined wartime eras", with a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, with the same residence, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the county spends. Cuming County keeps no aid fund among its budget funds. The Veterans Service Office budget carries a $2,000.00 "Veteran's Aid Costs" line, which spent $836.18 in 2023-2024 and nothing in 2024-2025 or 2025-2026, and is adopted again for 2026-2027; a separate $500 Food & Clothing line spent $195.95 and $58.00. The Board's claims of October 13, 2026 pay $183.79 to "Veterans Aid Fund" for veterans aid, the only such claim in the minutes of 2025 and 2026. How to apply. The page names the former officer; apply through the Veterans Service Office, (402) 372-6012 (see that entry). See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
