What the county lists. Colfax County's Veterans Services page, shared with Platte County's office, lists the "County Veterans' Aid Fund (CVA). To meet immediate emergency financial needs." The officer is Platte County's, Eric Mullally, who keeps Schuyler hours at 411 E. 11th Street on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.; veterans are asked to book through the Columbus office, 402-563-4914 (see the Platte County office entry, which also serves Colfax County). What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Vet's Aid, levies no tax. The filed 2025-2026 budget sets $22,946.75: $18,646.75 for emergency relief, $2,500.00 for miscellaneous expense, $1,000.00 for grave markers, $500.00 for board members' expenses and $300.00 for assisted veterans' travel. What it paid was only the committee's expenses - $129.06 in 2023-2024 and $131.76 in 2024-2025 - with no emergency relief, travel or markers in either year. The 2026-2027 hearing notice shows $190.32 paid in 2025-2026 and $22,756.43 proposed for 2026-2027, again with no tax requested. Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. The committee's members are paid $25.00 a meeting, and on June 23, 2026 the Board re-appointed Joseph Bohaboj to it for five years from July 1, 2026. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
