The arrangement is the State's; see the Alabama entry on the Department of Veterans Affairs' county service offices. The Department's list carries the Colbert/Lauderdale Veterans Service Office twice - a courthouse-side presence and the full-time office: - In the Colbert County Courthouse, 201 N. Main Street, Tuscumbia, AL 35674; Service Officer Peggy Williams; 256-386-8668, fax 256-389-8581; "Hours of Operation: Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Counties Served: Colbert, Lauderdale." - At 312 South Court Street, Florence, AL 35630; 256-760-5845, fax 256-767-0013; "Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Counties Served: Colbert, Lauderdale." What the help is. The Department's offices process compensation and pension applications, appeals, survivors' death benefits, aid and attendance and housebound claims, claim-document certification, military records requests, discharge upgrades and special veteran license plates, at no charge. A Colbert veteran who cannot make the courthouse's two days should use the Florence office, which keeps the full week. VA care for the area runs through the VA Alabama Health Care System's outpatient clinics; see the federal entries.
