Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Michigan counties run veterans affairs under Michigan Compiled Laws 35.601 to 35.622; see the Michigan entries. Clinton County does not run its own department: the Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Commission - a three-member board appointed by the Probate Judge to three-year terms - "administer[s] services to veterans which the County provides through its contract with Ingham County's Veterans Affairs Department", and the county's money flows through a Veteran Services Agreement. Where and when, from Amy Pocan's November 25, 2025 update to the Ways and Means Committee: services are provided to Clinton County veterans at the Ingham County Veterans Affairs Office from Monday to Friday during regular business hours, and at the Clinton County Courthouse every Thursday by a newly accredited County Veterans Service Officer, accredited as of October 24, 2025 - with service days in Clinton County to be re-evaluated and expanded as the CVSO works through the up-to-24-months accreditation training. The agreement's cost. On March 31, 2026 the Board approved, on the Ways and Means Committee's recommendation, the proposed CY26 Service Agreement at $106,177.95, which includes a position upgrade for the Veterans Benefits Counselor position. Pocan told the committee the per-case billing model no longer reflected the full cost of service delivery, that the grant-funded position serving Clinton County veterans had turned over because of non-competitive wages and workload, and that a revised model was needed for retention and service quality. The FY25 and FY26 County Veteran Service Fund grants support the service. The commission's overview and the agreement are the county's veteran administration; ask the Ingham County office or the Thursday Courthouse desk.
