What the fund holds. Fund 1900, Veteran's Aid, held $1,030.16 on July 1, 2023 and paid nothing in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025; the 2024 levy of 0.000126 per $100 of value brought in $1,971.67 of tax in 2024-2025, and the fund held $3,413.35 on July 1, 2025. The 2025-2026 budget levies nothing and makes the whole balance available: $1,606.68 for medical and hospital care, $1,606.67 of emergency relief and $200.00 of supplies. The county levies the Board of Equalization set in October 2025 carry no veterans aid levy, where the 2024 levies had one. What it paid. The Board's only aid fund claim in its 2025 and 2026 minutes is $2,000.00 to the "Clay County Vet Service Officer" for "Funding of Vet Aid" on October 28, 2025: the fund paid into the Veterans Service Office's own account at Cornerstone Bank, from which the officer pays aid; the Board moved that account to the new officer on August 25, 2026. Who qualifies. The county's page lists county veterans aid among the office's services and prints no eligibility test. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, 402-762-3508, Wednesday or Thursday (see that entry); see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
