Clatsop County Veterans Treatment Court

Clatsop County Circuit Court (18th Judicial District, Astoria) runs a Veterans Treatment Court as a veterans track within its treatment courts, led by Judge Kirk Wintermute with the county's veterans service officer, a veteran probation officer and a veteran mentor on the team; the Oregon Judicial Department's statewide list carries it beside the county's adult drug, family treatment and mental health courts.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What it is. The Oregon Judicial Department's Treatment Courts page lists, for Clatsop: Adult Drug Court, Family Treatment Court, Mental Health Court and Veteran Treatment Court. The circuit court's own specialty-courts page describes its treatment courts as "managed by an interdisciplinary team, led by a judge, working collaboratively to provide wrap-around services to achieve specific goals", and details the Adult Drug Court (a one-year intensive programme for county residents charged with drug- or alcohol-related offenses, petition within 45 days of the first court appearance, [email protected]) and the Mental Health Treatment Court (for residents with a chronic mental illness on probation, post-prison supervision or facing charges, [email protected]) - the veterans track runs within this machinery rather than as its own section. The county's veterans treatment court launched in February 2024 as Oregon's fifth, on a roughly $129,000 Oregon Criminal Justice Commission grant, led by Judge Kirk Wintermute with a team that includes the county's veterans service officer, a veteran probation officer and a veteran mentor (The Astorian, March 2, 2024). How to ask. A defendant's counsel files a petition with the court (the drug court's 45-day rule shows the shape); the court publishes no separate veterans eligibility page, so the court's team sets eligibility. The court's records sit with the circuit court at 749 Commercial Street, Astoria.
