The Clark County Assessor has already published the 2027 rules: a veteran rated 40% or more, or paid at the 100% rate, qualifies, with Clark's 2027 to 2029 income thresholds of $64,000, $74,000 and $85,000. Applications for 2027 open in February 2027, on 2026 income.

Also called: property tax, assessor, 84.36.381, senior exemption, disabled veteran exemption, 40 percent, individual unemployability, combined disposable income, deferral, Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; the Washington entry explains it. The Clark County Assessor runs it through its Tax Exemption Program site, with an online portal and paper forms in five languages ([email protected], 564-397-2391). What the Assessor publishes for tax year 2027. A veteran qualifies with "40% or higher disability evaluation rating or compensated at 100%", the second phrase being the statute's total-rating route that reaches individual unemployability. Clark's income thresholds rise to $64,000 (threshold 1), $74,000 (threshold 2) and $85,000 (threshold 3), and $94,579 for the deferral programme, from $44,000, $53,000 and $62,000. The benefit rises too: threshold 1 exempts the greater of $80,000 or 80% of value, threshold 2 the greater of $70,000 or 45% up to $200,000, and threshold 3 now exempts all of the State school levy. A standard deduction of $7,500 per applicant and spouse, a rental-income deduction up to $6,000 and the exclusion of Combat-Related Special Compensation also start in 2027. People already on the programme are moved to the new levels automatically. When to apply. Applications for 2027 tax relief open in February 2027 and use the 2026 tax return; there is no deadline, and refunds can be claimed for up to three earlier years in which the applicant qualified. One correction. The Assessor's FAQ credits the move to a 40% rating to Senate Bill 6162. That came from Engrossed House Bill 1106, chapter 200, Laws of 2025; ESSB 6162 (chapter 163, Laws of 2026) brought the income and deduction changes.
