Clark County (Arkansas) Collector: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption

The Clark County Collector, Jason Watson, 401 Clay Street, Arkadelphia ((870) 246-2211), takes the State's disabled veteran exemption; his page's answer sets a 70% rating test the State law does not use (it takes 100% permanent and total or special monthly compensation), and since Act 876 of 2025 the VA letter is a one-time filing.

The exemption is the State's, under section 26-3-306, as the Arkansas entry on the disabled veteran property tax exemption explains: no tax on the home, its land and personal property for a veteran VA rates 100% permanent and total or pays special monthly compensation for the loss or loss of use of a limb or blindness, carried on by an unremarried surviving spouse and minor children. Act 876 of 2025 added to section 26-3-306(b) that the VA letter "is required to be submitted only one (1) time" and that "annual submission of a letter from the department is not required", from the 2025 assessment year, so long as you tell the collector if you stop qualifying or move. File again for a new home. The county's page. The Collector's page (edited in 2022) answers "I am a disabled veteran. Do I get a discount?": "To be eligible for the DAV discount, you would need to bring to our office your awards letter from the Veterans Affairs Office. We will then check to see if you qualify. To be eligible you need to be at least 70% service connected and totally and permanently disabled." A widow with the veteran's awards letter can qualify by showing she has not remarried. The State law has no 70% test: the exemption is for a veteran VA rates 100% permanent and total (or paid special monthly compensation for the loss or loss of use of a limb or blindness). A veteran turned away under the page's 70% wording, or one rated 100% through special monthly compensation, should take the VA letter in and ask the office to apply the State test. Under Act 876 you bring the letter once, not every year. The office.
