Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Circuit Clerk's DD-214 Forms page: "In Arkansas, DD-214s are filed in the circuit clerk's office. A copy is kept as a part of the circuit clerk's official records. The original is returned to the filer. There is no charge to have a DD-214 filed with the Clark County Circuit Clerk's Office." It adds that "DD-214 is recorded in the Circuit Clerk Recorder's Office - no charge", and points to the National Archives for a replacement, which goes only to the veteran, the next of kin or someone holding the veteran's power of attorney. Why record it. A recorded discharge is a permanent county copy the office can certify when the original is lost, for a VA claim, a burial or a State benefit. Recorded instruments are public records, so ask the office how it keeps discharges before recording one. The Circuit Clerk, Brian Daniel, is at 401 Clay Street, Second Floor, Arkadelphia, (870) 246-4281, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
