The claims help in Churchill County is the State's, housed by the county. The Board of County Commissioners' May 20, 2026 agenda carried a "Memorandum of Agreement with the State of Nevada, Department of Veterans Services, for use of office space at the William N. Pennington Life Center", noting that NDVS "has been utilizing office space within the Churchill County Annex Building for several years, providing valuable services and accessibility to our veterans" and that the county first formalized the arrangement by executing an MOA in 2016. The motion Commissioner Hyde moved and Commissioner Blakey seconded - carried by unanimous vote - approved the agreement "for use of office space in the William N. Pennington Life Center with a termination date of December 31, 2026". The same office-space item had appeared on the Board's April 15, 2026 agenda. The building is the county's own: the William N. Pennington Life Center at 952 S. Maine Street in Fallon, operated by Churchill County Social Services as a multi-generational facility opened in June 2017. A veteran walks into a county building for state claims help. What the office does. NDVS service officers file disability compensation and pension claims, and help with the survivors' and burial benefits the Nevada and federal entries carry, at no charge. The county's role is the space and the agreement; the service is the State's. The agreement sunsets on December 31, 2026, so a veteran relying on the office should confirm it has been renewed, or ask NDVS where the office stands.
