Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Vermont counties have no governing board, no budget and no veterans service office of their own; the state's county offices are the elected State's Attorney and the sheriff. In Chittenden County the sheriff's department runs civil process, prisoner transport, fingerprinting and traffic services from its own site, which names no veteran programme, and the State's Attorney's staff list on the Department of State's Attorneys and Sheriffs' site names no veteran role except one: a "VA Program Services Clerk", published with no description of the role anywhere on the page. The claims route the State publishes is the Office of Veterans Affairs' certified service officers. The Office's own page: "Veterans applying for Disability Compensation or Improved Pension from the federal VA should not do this by themselves. Our certified service officers will complete the application and ensure the VA has all the information needed to process it". Call to make an appointment, 802-828-1082; the Office is at 118 State Street, Montpelier, (802) 828-3379, toll free in Vermont (888) 666-9844, office hours Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Chittenden County veteran's other state-side routes are the Office's own: the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, the veterans assistance fund and the state's records - the Office holds nearly 200,000 discharge records for veterans who entered from Vermont, and a lost DD-214 starts there rather than at the National Archives. The Office also verifies eligibility for the disabled veteran property tax exemption, which no county or town office administers. No veterans treatment docket sits in the county: the Judiciary's list for Chittenden is the Adult Drug Treatment and Mental Health Court Docket, with no veterans track.
