Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Commissioner of the Revenue runs Chesterfield's real estate and mobile home relief for an owner who is 65 or older, or totally and permanently disabled, as of December 31 of the prior year. A first-time disabled applicant under 65 gives a certification from Social Security, VA, or the Railroad Retirement Board, or, if not eligible for those, sworn affidavits from two Virginia physicians. It is not a VA rating of 100% service-connected, and a disabled veteran who does not meet that test can use this program. Relief covers the home and up to ten acres. For 2026, using 2025 income of everyone related who lives there, with $10,000 of each relative's income other than a spouse excluded: $0 to $39,600: 100% relief. $39,601 to $49,100: 60%. $49,101 to $65,400: 35%. Net worth cannot exceed $514,000, or $484,000 when the home is jointly owned with someone who does not qualify, excluding the home. The County Code indexes the income limits each January 1 to the Social Security cost-of-living increase, so the printed code figures lag the application. A full application is due every three years, with a certification in the two years between. Applications must be completed and approved by December 31, 2026.
