Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Chester County Coroner's Office takes charge of a person who dies in the county when no next of kin can be found or the next of kin declines responsibility, and arranges a cremation. It then checks with veterans' agencies whether the person was a veteran entitled to a military funeral with honors. For each veteran found eligible, the office works with military honors groups and, every two years, inters the remains at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, with honors, escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. The most recent ceremonies were on October 28, 2021, October 26, 2023 and October 30, 2025. The office publishes the names of those interred and of those awaiting the next interment; its page text still calls the 2023 ceremony the most recent.
