Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Chatham grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The elected Board of Assessors’ page names John Burke the chair, Nick Brown and Robert B. Franz the members, with Candace Cook the Assessor and Staff Liaison, at 549 Main Street (508-945-5103). The Exemption / Tax Deferral / Non-Profit Information page prints the town’s fiscal 2027 veterans’ amounts: $821.60 under clause 22 for a veteran with at least a 10 per cent service-related disability, and $2,054.00 under 22E for a 100 per cent service-related disability, each deducted from the real estate tax bill with $24.65 deducted from the CPA tax, and prints no 22A, 22B or 22C line. Each is the statute doubled and raised by the fiscal 2027 adjustment of 2.7 per cent alone ($800 and $2,000 times 1.027), one year’s adjustment on the doubled figure, what clauses 22I and 22J at 100 per cent produce with a fiscal-2027 first application. The page names no acceptance and no vote was found on the town’s site, so the entry asks the assessors which the town has accepted; its Veterans Clause 22 brochure link is the Commonwealth’s generic clauses 22 to 22H booklet at the statute’s amounts. The town’s Tax Relief for Property Owners sheet, its text keyed to fiscal 2026, prints $846.25 under clause 22, $1,834.22 under a 22A line whose eligibility text is the statute’s 22B’s and $2,078.00 under 22E - multipliers no option named in the section produces uniformly - so ask the assessors what each document rests on. The town’s site has no veterans’ services page: its fiscal 2026 budget book describes the Barnstable District Department of Veterans’ Services serving fifteen Cape towns and points readers to capevets.org, whose Locations & Hours page lists the district’s office at 66 Falmouth Road, Hyannis (508-778-8740) with no Chatham branch; the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists Gregory Quilty there for Chatham. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Cape Cod District Department of Veterans’ Services: Gregory Quilty (EOVS directory). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
