Chatham Area Transit Half Fare for Veterans

Chatham Area Transit carries honorably discharged veterans at half fare on its buses, 75 cents instead of $1.50 a ride, and on half-fare day and monthly passes. Show a veteran ID card, discharge papers, a driver's license with the veteran designation or a veterans' organization membership card, or apply for a half-fare ID card.

Chatham Area Transit, the county's transit authority, offers half fare to "honorably discharged veterans", along with people with disabilities, young people 6 to 18 and seniors 65 and older. The one-way local fare is $1.50, so half fare is 75 cents; half fare also applies to day passes and the monthly pass. Proof. Show the driver a veteran ID card, discharge documents, or a driver's license with a veteran designation; membership proof from a veterans' organization such as the VFW, American Legion or AMVETS is also accepted. A veteran can instead apply for a half-fare ID card at the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr. Intermodal Transit Center, 610 West Oglethorpe Avenue (photos Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; $5 to replace a lost card), or by calling 912-233-5767. The downtown dot shuttle and the Savannah Belles Ferry are free for everyone.
